The entire bench was given a hammered texture. 

Hall bench, (without upholstered top).  Angle iron was used as a frame so a plywood form could be dropped into place.  Note the clean joint between the leg and the frame.  This joint is not welded,  it is  a rivet joint.

The leg is upset at the bottom.  The cross bracing is attached to the leg with a wrap-around collar.
